It’s not easy being green… Or is it?

You may or may not know already, but Juiced Media are ‘into the green thing’ and do what we can to do our bit for the environment.
And we are not alone. Being green is on the agenda for many businesses today who want to be seen as environmentally responsible.
Today’s operating systems all feature some sort of power saving option which can be activated and tweaked to get better energy efficiency from your computer.
Microsoft Windows provides users of both laptops and Desktop PC’s many ways in which they can run their machine in a more power efficient way. This is not only noticed by the laptop user experiencing a longer battery life but also there can be a substantial cost saving on becoming more power efficient.
Windows provides ways in which laptop users can save their batteries, meaning that less frequent charging is required. Items such as turning the brightness of the display down, turning off the WiFi connection when it’s not being used, hibernation and standby are just some of the various features available to all users. Not only do these provide a longer battery life in the short term, as the laptop is not going through as many charge cycles, the battery will invariably last longer in the long term.
Most of these settings are also available to desktop users.
Mac users on Mac OSX will also find an ‘energy saver’ option in the system preferences screen which has similar options to the Microsoft operating system.
Using these settings and combining it with other common sense energy saving tips such as turning off all lights and computers when you leave the office, turning down the thermostat, keeping doors closed in cold weather, etc. can decrease your energy consumption and therefore your carbon footprint.
Now, go give that tree a cuddle.
